Stickybits at the Boulder J Fest

Got an iPhone or Android device? Tag your world with Stickybits! Each booth at this year’s Boulder Jewish Festival will have unique “Stickybits” barcode. Download the free Stickybits app ahead of time, then scan away!

Scan a barcode and attach a “bit” – a photo of something at the booth, a music video, a text comment or a song. Each scan can be seen in the live stream of “scans” and is mapped on a Google map. Want to remember which organization had a great upcoming program? Scan their bar code and attach a message. Can’t believe how good the food is? Scan the code and attach a photo. Love the music on the main stage? Scan the code and attach a video clip. See an amazing piece of artwork that you know a friend would adore? Scan the code and share with a friend.

When you scan a code, you can also see which other users have scanned that code and what they have attached. And people who scan after you will see what you attached. Get it?

As if that weren’t nifty and cool enough, you can also see the locations of the scans and a running list of popular scans. You might see a lot of activity at a particular booth, and the location ID will enable you to find it.

Dan Nichols Headlines the 2010 Festival

Boulder Jewish Festival is thrilled to announce Dan Nichols and Eighteen will be headlining this year’s entertainment lineup. Dan is one of the most popular and influential Jewish musicians in North America, performing over 200 concerts a year. His music has become an important part of the Reform Jewish movement, with synagogue youth and clergy alike incorporating it into their curriculum and services.

Also new on the Festival stage this year, Jeff Kagan performs a family-friendly set just after 11 am, sure to get kids involved and singing!

Rounding out the entertainment this year are ZADIK, Sheldon Sands and his band, The Boulder Klezmer Consort, and Or Zimrah, the band of Congregation Har HaShem. The Boulder Jewish Day School Choir will open the Festival. Click here for performance times (subject to change). See you on June 6!

Great Bands on Festival Main Stage

Steve Brodsky, Robbi Sherwin and Scott Leader return to the Boulder Jewish Festival stage with their new band, Sababa. Sababa is an Arabic word that has become widely used as Israeli slang, meaning “really cool” or “awesome.” While it can be used to describe an object (as in, “Hey, your new car is really sababa,”) it’s more often used to describe a mood or a feeling (as in, “How are you feeling today?” “Sababa!”). Welcome back!

Other bands performing on the Main Stage include Los Lantzmun, new performer Zadik, Eden, and the Har HaSham House Band with special guest Mark Megibow of FACE. The Boulder Jewish Day School choir will open the Festival. Check out the schedule for the main stage this year!

Rabbi Palooza Line Up

New at this year’s Festival: the first-ever Rabbi Palooza. If you missed them at Limmud or Shavuot, take a break from the music and art, get some nosh, and enjoy a sample teaching or story from one of the spiritual leaders of our community.

Celebrate Israel

Community-wide celebration on Sunday, May 31, 11 am to 3 pm at the Denver Campus for Jewish Education, 2450 South Wabash Street, Denver. Family Bike Ride for Israel Starts at 10:30 a.m.

Jewgrass and Bagel Brunch

Sunday, May 31, 11 am at the Comedy Works (Denver). Featuring Shalom Feivel and Rocky Mountain Jewgrass, who performed at the Boulder Jewish Festival in 2007. Mention Jewish Family Service (JFS) when purchasing tickets and receive $5 off per adult. Then bring non-perishable food items for the Jewish Family Service Food Pantry the day of the event.

Boulder JCC Board Parties

Boulder JCC Board parties continue this weekend and next, including a garden party, wine tasting, and BBQ and Beer Fest. Contact the Boulder JCC for more info.

La Pachanga

Our friends at Intercambio are holding La Pachanga – Latin & American Dance Party – on Saturday night, June 6, 7:30 to 1 am at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park Stadium in Commerce City. Looks like fun!

A favorite Festival story

From the Daily Camera: Eliana Dreyfus, holding a ground breaking shovel, looks at the photo taken of her 9-years ago. Eliana Dreyfus, the famous “twirling girl,” attended the ground breaking for the Carousel of Happiness in Nederland on July 26, 2008. The carving of Eliana, which will be at the top of the carousel, was inspired by a photograph taken of her 9 years ago at the Boulder Jewish Festival that appeared in the Daily Camera.
