Jews Brews Post-Festival Cruise

OK, first there was IgniteChanukah. Then there was Jews, Brews and Startup Gurus. Now get ready for Jews Brews Post-Festival Cruise. For 20s -30s-maybe-40s, the Boulder JCC is hosting an after-party in happy hour fashion but with a twist: meet MyHandleBar.

MyHandleBar is a giant 16-passenger bar-bike with several pedaling seats and is an awesome eco-friendly way to cruise around Boulder with friends or crawl from pub to pub sampling local brews and site seeing. This bike is the ideal Colorado party rental when you’re looking to have fun in the sun, burn some calories and bond with friends.

The bike was originally called “fietscafe,” which is a loose Dutch translation for “Bike Café.” And, like a great many out-of-the-box ideas, this one started in a pub, was spurred on by a friendly wager and was literally sketched out on a bar napkin. The after-party will be held on June 12 (duh) from 5 p.m. on, at The Lazy Dog restaurant on Pearl Street. We are most grateful for the many day-of-event volunteers who help make the Boulder Jewish Festival a reality! Volunteers of all ages help with setup, greeting, t-shirt sales, zero-waste stations, and more.

Community Organizations at the 2011 Festival

More than 3 dozen community organizations will be at the 2011 Boulder Jewish Festival – WOW! The Boulder County Courthouse Lawn will be crowded and hopping. Check out the list of community organizations by clicking on the Community tab above.

This is a great opportunity to learn about the great non-profit organizations that help make up the greater Boulder Jewish community. About a third of the groups are synagogues/faith communities. Another quarter are education-based, for all ages (kids, families, youth, college, adult). Several groups are focused on Israel, ranging from Israel travel experiences to political action. Finally, there are community-wide and special interest groups including Hazon, Jewish Family Services, the Jewish Genealogical Society of Colorado and of course – the Boulder Jewish News.

Whether your interest is outdoors, indoors, local, global, historical, spiritual, artistic or gastronomic, there’s a group here ready to share your passion and fan the Jewish sparks in your life.

The Festival hours are 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday June 6 (one-day only!). There is free parking in city lots and streets on Sunday, as well as this year’s new Bike Valet. Non-stop entertainment (including some special treats between acts!), fabulous Judaica and fine art stretching from Peppercorn on 1200 to Starbucks on 1400, kugels and latkes and knish, oh my! A Festival-record number of Jewish non-profit organizations share the lawn this year. It’s amazing!

As our friends at the IJN remarked, “Jews along the Front Range need go no further than Boulder this Sunday for their own feel-good day of celebrating Jewish life, Boulder-style of course.”

Explore, enjoy, engage! Be sure to pick up the free Festival program/”Connecting to Jewish Boulder” book at the event, the “yellow pages” of Jewish Boulder, and of course commemorative t-shirts are available for purchase and help support the event. In a Pickle?

When life gives you gherkins, make pickles! Lubavitch of Boulder County invites you to learn how to make your own pickles with Rabbi Pickle of California at our booth at the Boulder Jewish Festival, this Sunday, June 6 on the Pearl Street Mall. Show times are 12, 1:30 and 3. As in the past, Rabbi Liberow, a scribe from Colorado Springs will be checking Mezuzos for only $7 a scroll while you wait as well as selling new scrolls. Please tell your friends to bring their scrolls with them for checking.

As always, don’t miss Ezra’s amazing kosher hotdogs and hamburgers at LB Kosher Grill… and this year, you can buy your own pickles.

A record 39 community organizations are coming to 2010 Boulder Jewish Festival – WOW! Is your Mezuzah kosher? Check it at the Festival

Ever wonder if your mezuzah scroll is kosher? Bring it to the Festival this year to have it checked! Lubavitch of Boulder County will have a sofer, a Torah scribe, at their booth at the 2010 Boulder Jewish Festival, who will examine it free of charge.

Need a mezuzah case? Find original, hand-made Judaica at one of the fine art booths along Pearl Street on Sunday, June 6 at the Boulder Jewish Festival. For a list of participating artists, click here. See you Sunday!

Let the Games Begin!

This year’s Boulder Jewish Festival KID’S ZONE celebrates the 2010 Denver JCC Maccabi Games being held on August 1 – 6, 2010.

Boys and girls from Boulder, Denver and around the country will be competing in Olympic-style games. Meet some of the athletes at our Kids Zone, and find out about volunteer opportunities. Join the excitement!

Let the games begin with an Olympic march from the Main Stage to the Boulder Jewish Festival mini-Maccabi games Kid’s Zone from 11:30 am – 4:30. Preschool to 5th grade join us from 11:30 am to 3 pm. At 3 pm, the area becomes a giant GAGA pit for 6th grade thru high school. For more info about the JCC Maccabi Games – click here!
