It's really this Sunday!

The Festival hours are 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday June 6 (one-day only!). There is free parking in city lots and streets on Sunday, as well as this year’s new Bike Valet. Non-stop entertainment (including some special treats between acts!), fabulous Judaica and fine art stretching from Peppercorn on 1200 to Starbucks on 1400, kugels and latkes and knish, oh my! A Festival-record number of Jewish non-profit organizations share the lawn this year. It’s amazing!

As our friends at the IJN remarked, “Jews along the Front Range need go no further than Boulder this Sunday for their own feel-good day of celebrating Jewish life, Boulder-style of course.”

Explore, enjoy, engage! Be sure to pick up the free Festival program/”Connecting to Jewish Boulder” book at the event, the “yellow pages” of Jewish Boulder, and of course commemorative t-shirts are available for purchase and help support the event. Many thanks to our sponsors, our great team of volunteers who spend months preparing for the big day, and to our day of event volunteers!

A record 40 community organizations will be represented at the 2010 Boulder Jewish Festival!

A record 39 community organizations are coming to 2010 Boulder Jewish Festival – WOW! The Boulder County Courthouse Lawn will be crowded and hopping with nearly all of 2009′s organizations returning, plus 7 more groups. Check out the list of community organizations by clicking on the Community tab above.

This is a great opportunity to learn about the great non-profit organizations that help make up the greater Boulder Jewish community. About a third of the groups are synagogues/faith communities. Another quarter are education-based, for all ages (kids, families, youth, college, adult). Several groups are focused on Israel, ranging from Israel travel experiences to political action. Finally, there are community-wide and special interest groups including Mazon, a Jewish Response to Hunger (based in Los Angeles), Tuv Ha’Aretz (Boulder Jewish Community Supported Agriculture), Jewish Family Services , the Jewish Genealogical Society of Colorado and of course – the Boulder Jewish News.

Whether your interest is outdoors, indoors, local, global, historical, spiritual, artistic or gastronomic, there’s a group here ready to share your passion and fan the Jewish sparks in your life.

Got an iPhone or Android phone? Stay tuned for more ways to get involved this year! Organizations: if you would like to publicize what’s happening in your booth this year at the event – activities, games, etc – contact us

See you on June 6!

At any given time, there are more Jews not affiliated with the Jewish community than actively involved. To address this need for outreach to unengaged Jews, the Jewish Outreach Institute (JOI) has formed the Big Tent Judaism Coalition. The Coalition gives a voice to Jewish organizations that desire to be open and welcoming to all who approach and is the first such national initiative to connect across Jewish denominational and institutional lines. In its efforts to create a more welcoming Jewish community, Boulder Jewish Festival has joined the Big Tent Judaism Coalition.

By joining the Big Tent Judaism Coalition, Boulder Jewish Festival has committed to serving all Jewish households and embracing the diversity that comprises today’s Jewish community. Congregation Bonai Shalom, Pardes Levavot, and Beth Ami are also members of the coalition, as well as Denver groups including Judaism Your Way and Jewish Mosaic.

“Our Biblical forebears Abraham and Sarah opened their tent on all four sides and welcomed all who approached,”

says JOI Executive Director Rabbi Kerry Olitzky. “It’s time that we as a Jewish community follow their example and welcome all who cast their lot with the Jewish community into our midst.” The Big Tent Judaism Coalition provides an online directory of organizations committed to welcoming and including any individual or Jewish household—including the increasing numbers of interfaith couples and families, Jews of color and multiracial families, Jews-by-choice and members of the LGBT population—interested in engaging with the Jewish community. The site will also provide updated information about Jewish holidays and practices, as well as other resources that will help them navigate the Jewish community. For the communal professionals and lay leaders working inside member organizations of the Big Tent Judaism Coalition, the initiative offers networking, consultation, and best practices for welcoming those individuals and families.

More information about Big Tent Judaism is available online at www.BigTentJudaism.org.

The Jewish Outreach Institute (JOI)— is an independent, national, trans-denominational organization reaching out to unengaged and intermarried Jewish families, and helping the organized Jewish community better welcome them in. JOI conducts research, runs programs, and serves as a national training institution and network for outreach professionals, guiding and supporting innovative outreach in communities throughout North America.

MazelTot organizers called up Jewish organizations around the Denver-metro and Boulder area that offer pre-kindergarten programs and events. Twenty nine organizations agreed to join MazelTot and offer discounts on programs such as yoga classes, daycare services, retreats and musical events. The grant helps pay organizations so they can provide discounts and deals. The discounts aim to help families “live Jewishly” during rough economic times, Farber Miller said. Families can see a list of events and services side by side, then use discounts to try new things. Each family can use up to $1000 in deals. Boulder County organizations that will participate include the Boulder JCC, congregation Nevei Kodesh, the Adventure Rabbi, the Boulder Jewish Day School and Chabad of Longmont.
